Dr Brooks is a Specialist Plastic Surgeon. This means he has completed Training by the Royal Australian College of Surgeons.

Since his Fellowship qualification in 2009, Dr Brooks has continued to broaden his experience by contributing to research, provide teaching to junior doctors, attending and presenting at national and international conferences and travelling to visit surgeons around the globe to further improve his skills and keep up to date with the latest techniques.
Dr Brooks is a Specialist in Plastic Surgery with a special interest in Cosmetic Surgery, not a Cosmetic doctor. This means he has completed a Fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons in the area of Plastic Surgery and has been recognised by his peers as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon. This required 5 years of medical school, multiple years as a junior doctor in hospital, followed by 5 years of Specialist Training and then completion of the Fellowship examinations.
This is different from a cosmetic doctor who may only have completed 5 years of medical school and not completed any further qualifications.
In Australia, Plastic surgeons such as Dr Brooks are required to complete a minimum of 12 years of training before they become Specialists including 5 years of Specialist Surgical Training.
Dr Brooks has 14 years of experience as a Consultant Specialist Plastic Surgeon since completing his Fellowship examinations and has therefore amassed a vast wealth of knowledge and additionally has worked with Plastic Surgeons across the world to continue to build his experience and help improve his patient’s outcomes.
A Specialist Plastic Surgeon qualification is indicated by the letters “FRACS Plas” after their name whereas a cosmetic doctor will not. It stands for Fellow of the Royal College of Australian Surgeons in Plastic Surgery.

Lipoedema is one of Dr Brooks’ areas of special interest. He is one of the only Plastic Surgeons in Western Australia to manage lipoedema. He has trained with lipoedema specialists in Europe and lectures on the subject regularly.
If you have lipoedema, we welcome for you to come and discuss it with Senior Nurse Clare who may be able to guide you on non-surgical management and discuss possible areas where surgery may be of benefit.

For any cosmetic procedure, all patients must have a referral from their GP.
This is based on the AHPRA National Guidelines and is important in protecting the public. We ensure that patient’s GPs receive updates regarding their procedure and progress.
We also recommend a second opinion from another qualified Plastic Surgeon before pursuing a cosmetic procedure.
Cost is always a consideration in elective surgery. Prices for individual procedures can vary widely between Specialist Plastic Surgeons. Some factors that may influence the cost include the surgeon’s experience, the type of procedure, anaesthetist and hospital location.

Private insurance may cover some of these costs depending on the MBS item numbers used and the degree of private cover that you have.
